Fund Raising

As the warmer weather approaches, it is time to start thinking about and planning for some fun-filled fund raising events to help defray the costs our communities will face, as we prepare to present the residents' points of view regarding the proposed development at Don Mills and Steeles. We have been advised to concentrate our efforts on traffic and to prepare a photographic/video presentation to impress on the people who will make the decisions - Markham Planning, Markham Council and the Ontario Municipal Board - just how bad traffic is now, on our roads and intersections, at peak periods, never mind in 2018-2020. We would also like to know your ideas, for example how many of you would like to see air pollution, noise and vibration monitoring done along our roadways and at our intersections. The more money we raise, the more we will be able to do in the way of collecting evidence to support our cause. We have to be ready by the fall, as we have been told that that is the most likely time the statutory public meeting on Markhamgate will be held by the Town of Markham.

Let's make May to October 2009, a summer to remember for our children, grandchildren and ourselves with lots of fun-filled events we can all help out with and enjoy, as we work towards our common goal. We need everyone's suggestions for events, everyone's contacts regarding sponsors, volunteers to do the organizing, more volunteers to run the events, community to support community and all of us to participate. We would like to invite our young people especially, for their ideas and energy, helping to organize events for teens and children. And we want some great photos of all our events to add to our presentation to show the powers that be, just how much we all care about what happens at Don Mills and Steeles and how hard we have all worked towards keeping our communities liveable.

So send us your ideas and suggestions. We want to hear from everyone and have everyone involved. Tell us the best days and dates, and which to avoid, what activities you are good at organizing or willing to run and volunteer for and if you are a sponsor, in what way you can help.

Yes we can!! Let's get started.
